During the 1970s, "French fluff" was a favorite deogatory catch-phrase used by critics, to make fun of the very popular (on the art-theater circuit) imports of which "Cousin Cousine" and "Pardon Mon Affaire" were the most typical (and generated Hollywood remakes like clockwork). This Marc Dorcel production, directed by the talented Michel Ricaud, has similar content but for an Adult audience, and it hits the spot.
Title is untranslatable, with a literal stab yielding "The Loaves of the Baker's Wife", far removed from the Marcel Pagnol classic of the 1930s. Adding immeasurably to the entertainment is the juxtaposition of luscious food, in this case French pastries being created in the kitchen, and explicit sex, also in the kitchen. Closeups of the creme brulee being torched or other light desserts being baked are in context the forerunners of today's social media "food porn" photos.

The last and least-liked of Radley Metzger's explicit quintet shows the talented filmmaker now almost dispensing with plot altogether, a trend he previously toyed with on his free form BARBARA BROADCAST in a radical departure from the classic three act structure, borrowed from stage and screen lore since times immemorial, he previously and rigorously adhered to. Though he has never gone on record about it, my guess is that Metzger realized he had pretty much expanded the fornication film form to its genre-imposed limits with THE OPENING OF MISTY BEETHOVEN and was now gently phasing himself out of what was indeed increasingly becoming an industry (rather than art form) he had entered somewhat reluctantly in the first place out of economic necessity as the commercial availability of hardcore had made simulated screen sex obsolete. That said, MARASCHINO CHERRY still towers over much of its contemporary competition and may be in need of re-evaluation, an opportunity for which now graciously granted by the kind folks at Video-X-Pix who have issued a sterling 2 disc "Platinum Elite Collector's Edition" (hopefully, the first of many) in glorious widescreen to supplant their earlier bare bones pan & scan single platter.

Crazy Girls/Teenager in Love has a basic plot, but tries to make up for that with presentation: Gauzy music video style fantasy sequences featuring Jesie St. James and Marilyn Jess posing and contorting, to the candle-heavy grotto where our characters watch Sophie Guers being gangbanged by men in period French costumes and wigs (which reminds me of a Police video made a few years later - the candle part, not the gangbang), and even Dominique St. Clair's pouty, pretty New Wave look (in some glimpses he looks like a young toughie; in others he looks as if he's wearing as much makeup as the ladies).
The plot has St. Clair walking in on his father (initially credited on IMDB as Dany Berger - it's definitely not Dany Berger, even if one of Dany's pseuds is used) having office fun with two young ladies. In an amusing character moment, the father's idea of discretion is to simply slip on his suit jacket and continue the conversation naked from the waist down. Dad gives him his medallion, which could be the start of a Leisure Suit Larry game, but is instead the prelude to Pop sending his son off to one of his lothario pals (Alban Ceray).

Frequently cited by adult movie sources as the perfect film to make your significant other cross the line from simulation to penetration, it seems somewhat unfair to confine former performer Paul Thomas' groundbreaking MASSEUSE to the porno genre, even if it does contain elements which inevitably place it in that category. For many aficionados, this flick will be soft on sex, basically just two people in one extended encounter, spread out over four explicit scenes. Other characters are represented only peripherally to the central relationship growing between virginal 28-year old librarian Jim (Randy Spears) and the sympathetic masseuse he frequents, Barbara (Hyapatia Lee), their subtle shifts in dynamics beautifully conveyed through insightful writing from Mark Haggard, best known for co-directing the silly but highly enjoyable FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL with Bruce Kimmel. Coupled with career performances from both leads, who would be re-teamed several times (perhaps most memorably in CENTERFOLD, arguably Bud Lee's best film), this proves a perfectly realized gem, easily one of the finest features to come out of the late '80s/early '90s period, a particularly barren wasteland for the American adult industry.

I'm sure Europe must have produced some quality pornography in the '70s and '80s, but judging by what American audiences were subject to as dubbed imports, it sure doesn't seem like much made its way to Yankee shores. CALL GIRL is one such example, a poorly dubbed bastardization of a confusing prostitution romp riddled with ridiculous digressions.
Ghost of a plot finds a young woman trying to sell herself on the streets of Paris (I assume it's Paris - it's a city and all the signs are in French). She's soon placed under arrest by a vice cop (French porno mainstay Richard Allan), who wastes no time taking for free what he should rightfully be paying for. Deciding to help out the lady (after, you know, raping her), he fobs her off on his pimp twin brother Lucifer (also Allan), who slots her into his roster of high-class call girls. If the film is trying to make some larger point by having the crime-king villain and head of the vice squad be literally the same person, it's totally undeveloped, and any potential for higher-level social commentary left on the table.

With 17 concise sex scenes, this lesser-known French Adult feature from the Porno Chic era is Old School filmmaking - nearly a lost art.
The story of a bourgeois couple becoming swingers benefits from the plot device of a deus ex machina new butler showing up who is not what he's supposed to be. Otherwise nothing dramatic or negative happens giving the movie a 100% positive approach to openness ad far as sex is concerned. Recently issued on DVD in America by Third World Media, tbe show looks great and is must viewing as a lovely showcase for leading lady Brigitte Lahaie.

There were two reasons I wanted to watch this film and was one because I had heard so many good things about the French XXX scene of the late 70's and early 80's. From what I had read the French were making more "artful" film, which were against American films like Deep Throat. The second reason, as a Euro sleaze fan, I wanted to check out Brigitte Lahale who seems to have the biggest cult following. As for the film, it wasn't too bad for what it is but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to call it a masterpiece.

With a decades-long career in softcore behind him, producer Dave Friedman had more than enough time to hone an art for making silk purses out of sows' ears. He pulls that off again in MATINEE IDOL, a later-day Henri Pachard XXXer that's short on plot but surprisingly long on entertainment.
The story finds feuding porno thesps John Leslie and Jesie St. James getting into a fight on set that threatens to derail their latest production. With the two retreating to their separate residences, it's up to producers Harvey Cox and Bernard Kuntz (Elmo Lavino and Friedman, respectively) to find a couple newcomers to fill their shoes. Following a long series of auditions, the pair finally pulls in Daisy Cheney (Angel) to substitute for St. James, while the actress herself seizes on studly pool cleaner Herschel Savage to fill Leslie's... er, shoes. With St. James and Leslie forced to work together one last time before their replacements ascend to the limelight, is there any chance sparks might reignite, or is it curtains for porno's marquee duo?

Although he failed to make much of a splash in the director's chair, the mondo bizarro SULKA'S WEDDING probably the - albeit comparatively - most highly regarded of his meager body of work (even though it has been routinely attributed to producer and transsexual "auteur" Kim Christy), Mike Stryker's real claim to fame was his as of yet largely unsung capability as a cinematographer. He shot some of pervy Joe Davian's more mainstream efforts such as GIRLS USA and MANHATTAN MISTRESS, added atmosphere to couples friendly carnal treats like Phil Marshak's INTIMATE LESSONS and Bill Milling's delightful DELICIOUS and did his best job bar none on former sexploitation mogul Ed De Priest's decidedly different SKINTIGHT. So at least, SLIP INTO SILK looks lovely, which is a good thing as it doesn't have all that much more to offer.
It is, in fact, another one of those tired "let's put sex on the airwaves" radio-centered romps the adult industry for some unfathomable reason resorts to every so often. Apart from the Suze Randall classic KISS AND TELL and Bob Augustus's unfairly underrated EROTIC RADIO WSEX, these hardly ever work, perhaps because a non stop barrage of mellow tunes occasionally interrupted by some heavy breathing lady dick, uh, disc jockey's a pretty dumb idea to begin with. In my opinion, you would be better off sticking to Adrienne Barbeau's Stevie Wayne from Carpenter's THE FOG and forget about any further attempts.

Movie made by the Beate Uhse-company. Beate Uhse is to Germany what Hugh Heffner is for the USA. She is the biggest sex-producer of the country, publishing magazines, exploiting sex shops, making porn movies and she owns one of Europe's biggest postal order companies. This is quite an early production of hers, made in 1980. Apparently filmed in Amsterdam with German and French actors.
There isn't much of a story. Father and son Hoffmann run a bookstore. If a woman wants to be pleased sexually, she goes to the bookstore and asks for a magazine. She adds a password and is taken to the back room, where either father Hoffmann or his son, or both at the same time fulfill her sexual desires.
The female part of the cast is young and well looking. The male part is less impressive and to see father Hoffmann do his thing doesn't make you feel extremely happy. Oh, there is an orgy too. In the beginning father is wearing a strange uniform, but alas, he takes it off soon.

Normally I don't mind watching some realistic looking people in German smut from three decades ago, but this one has absolutely nothing to recommend itself. It's just a some ugly people doing the nasty in a non existent story narrated in the first person by the two leads. And the first lead does not really count anyway. A skinny, smug secretary talks to the camera while sitting at a seaside restaurant and tells us about how she rented an apartment only to find a couple of camera's in the bedroom. So, she called the previous owner to hear her side of the story, meaning the bulk of the picture is a flashback within a flashback. I'll warn you right now that the previous owner, Marietta Stechmuller (Martina Roll), is less good looking than the one who opens the film, and when we finally arrive back where we started from near the end, number one turns out to look better with her clothes on than off. What a waist. Now that I think about it, this 'framework story' might just have been added at the last minute when they found out the film was running 15 minutes short.

Once again, female dissatisfaction is the ideal counterpoint to male desire, and once again serves as the backbone of a story that, although it lacks the slightest originality, is captured with taste and a very attractive erotic vision. This is one of the great porn titles of the late 70s.

Producer William Dancer returned to the territory he mined so successfully with LITTLE GIRLS BLUE and its official sequel, both directed by former sexploitation starlet Joanna Williams, so much in fact that it has on occasion been referred to as a legitimate third installment in that particular series. Director Hans (not Damon) Christian, a name that has popped up every once in a while over the years (usually on Dancer-related projects, so it might be him), keeps the pace going, effectively papering over the flick's hackneyed narrative thrust, and don't you go telling me that isn't a nice choice of words ! Nice cinematography and infectious good humor help make this a far more enjoyable endeavor than similar schoolgirl-themed efforts.
The school year is coming to an end at the Ridley High School for young ladies and the girls are getting restless for their upcoming finals as well as their naturally raging hormones. Opening scene references LITTLE GIRLS BLUE most literally as teacher Paul Thomas fantasizes about the charmingly gawky honor student, Andrea Adams from FEMALE SENSATIONS, materializing on the blank page before him. Predictably, the hotties at hand are prepared to go to great lengths to assure good grades.

Before the video age set in, the makers of pornographic films were a bit more adventurous. The genre conventions were less established and a few things were tried out one would rarely ever see in more recent products.
To begin with, this piece has a plot. Womanising Italian lingerie entrepreneur Ricardo Bertini tries to launch his newest collection in France, and - as you do - bed the local talent along the way. Problem is: his pretty new secretary Lisa won't play ball; partly because of his womanising, and partly because she rather plays doll, especially with her girlfriend Minouche. Then there is a plot twist as Ricardo gets kidnapped by the local brainless criminals - a nice opportunity for the director to fit some bondage scenes in; poor Ricardo suffers some abuse many men would pay good money for. Ricardo cannot pay the ransom, as he's broke, but Lisa (who comes from a wealthy family) bails him out and eventually true love prevails.

The "enfant terrible" of European erotica par excellence, Gérard Kikoïne always seemed most at home when exploring the darker side of people's sexuality and the often extraordinary lengths to which they were prepared to go in order to keep up the superficial appearance of respectability in a deeply hypocritical society. The comfortable middle classes, natural habitat to his fellow filmmaker at Alpha France Claude Bernard-Aubert (a/k/a "Burd Tranbaree"), proved his favorite target, making him something of a sex saga sibling to the lauded likes of Claude Chabrol and Luis Bunuel yet with an additional ferociousness alien to these art-house darlings, with the possible exception of THE CEREMONY and THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL respectively, but I digress. The Elektra complex that fuels daughter Marilyn Jess' gradual seduction of about to rewed dad Alban Ceray through a series of increasingly twisted mind games in CHAUDES ADOLESCENTES and the bourgeois family blown to smithereens by interloping nurse Agnès Lemercier hired to off pater familias Gilbert Servien in ENTRECHATTES serve as prime examples of Kikoïne's vitriolic attack on the shaky values of "polite" society.
