Charlie (Annette Haven) is a beautiful, but reserved young woman. When her husband Steve (Wade Nichols) arranges for them another couple to spend a romantic weekend together on a secluded section of California beach, it becomes clear to Charlie that in order for her to enjoy true pleasure, she will have to break free of her reserved shell.
Profound porno that maintains a captivating tone throughout (the score was my favorite aspect of the production) with all the things that most great "regular" films have too, like convincing acting, character development, a coherent plot that builds towards something and a lot of emotion. Lust, doubt, fear, love, jealousy and maybe most importantly hope to escape the known and to transcend into a spiritual world beyond society's moral boundaries.
Unfortunately the film just sort of fizzles out in the end inside a sexual fantasy which is akin to a cinematic coitus interruptus but I guess I'll just have to assume that the main character reached her moment of nirvana when the movie suddenly ends. But that's only a small minus for what comes across as a very honest and idiosyncratic film that is neither your average porno nor your average art-house flick but in many ways a combination of the best of both worlds. Certainly what makes 'Love You' immediately stick out are the gobsmacking visuals which just happen to depict blowjobs and penetration on a beach but it might as well show a knight playing chess with Death on a beach.
In Britain, the film was re-edited down to 80 minutes, and had all of the hardcore footage removed.

Reluctant to revisit their explicit exploits to this day, team in life as well as labor of Edwin and Summer Brown crafted several of the more successful attempts at the so-called "couples film", that mythical beast born to break down barriers between the sexes. The reality of most of these well-intentioned attempts was that, rather than satisfy male and female viewers alike, their frequently clueless approach ended up pleasing no one. Part of the demographic themselves, the Browns were an exception, producing a batch of increasingly impressive technical merit over the ten year period between 1975's CHINA GIRL and their 1986 DREAMGIRLS with a few early '90s efforts tagged on as a coda. Serving as a testimony to the genre's good health circa 1982, their adult adaptation from some of the lesser known tales from the compendium of folk tales from the Middle East commonly referred to as The Arabian Nights proves the most lavish of their sexual spectacles. Unfortunately, the sluggish pace - inspired, perhaps, by ill-advised reverence to its lofty literary source - also makes it their most stilted.

The film starts with successful business man Claudio Vincenti (Peter Kwapinski) being introduced. He is so important that he even has two secretaries, Susi and Helga, who are "young, intelligent and very talented". Typically for this movie, just after Susi and Helga are introduced, there is a brutal segue to Claudio peeping on an entirely different couple having sex. Afterwards it's back to the two secretaries and then, unceremoniously, on the randy couple again. Then Claudio gets a call from a friend who tells him that he's in a tiff with his blonde girlfriend. Intrepid Claudio leaves behind his important office work, cut against scenes of his secretaries getting it off with each other, to join the combative couple and partake in their makeup sex. Then the successful entrepreneur is off to have his passport picture taken by Babsi, which results in them having sex. Then Babsi rides in her car to visit a girlfriend, and on the way is intercepted by an exhibitionist. At her girlfriend's place she has sex with a visitor, Herr Specht (Mr. Woodpecker), and when she leaves, Herr Specht also has sex with the girlfriend.
This movie is really as random as it gets, with completely random clips being shoehorned into an already very random story under the pretentious premise of the adventures of an international businessman, rather than, say, a randy student. The sex scenes are pretty good, but the cover story sucks.

A group of high school friends are reunited and head out to a mysterious island. Once on the island a mysterious voice is heard and warns them that something bad is going to happen. This porno is a spoof on the Ten Little Indians theme but it does very, very little with it. I mean, this film clocks in at just 68-minutes and the majority of that delivers on the sex. If you're expecting any sort of story then you're going to be disappointed. There is a brief "mystery" happening but if you can't spot the killer as soon as he/she is on the screen then you should never be allowed to watch a movie again. The cast is decent for this type of film and fans of Vanessa del Rio will be happy to see her here. This here was released by Vinegar Syndrome as a double feature with SHERLICK HOLMES and there's no question that the Harry Reems film is the winner of the two.

French adult movie (original title ONDEES BRULANTES) has a couple going into a cutting room where they're going to watch some rushes from a porn movie but soon they find each other more interesting than the movie. I'm not an expert on this type of film but if you read around it appears that the French are considered masters at this type of adult movie. I'm not going to argue that but this one here is about as cheap as one can get. We pretty much get a film within a film as our four people (including Brigitte Lahaie) simply watch what looks to be very rough outtakes from something really cheap. After a while they all go at it in the room. That's pretty much all there is storywise but I'm guessing most people will be attracted to this film for the appearance of Lahaie. Fans of her certainly won't be disappointed as she pretty much does everything possible to both men and the woman on board. The film (with the four in the room) is fairly well made with some nice shots and a rather good music score but the outtakes are all rather poorly done.

The late Paul G. Vatelli (who died of an AIDS-related illness somewhere in the mid-'80s) may not have been an overly talented filmmaker in the adult field but he had at least one enviable gift that set him apart from much of the competition. He could really create a sensuous mood through a combination of lighting and cinematography (he started out a DoP and fulfilled that function on his own directorial efforts), editing and music, giving birth to some of the more successful "couples films" of the period. He always made female performers look their best by putting them in frilly Frederick's of Hollywood type lingerie with tastefully subtle hair and make up to match. Along with BODIES IN HEAT and STIFF COMPETITION, I LIKE TO WATCH makes for a triumvirate of his very best work.

Paul Thomas delivers a sensational performance as candidate Nicholas Stern, a liberal Democratic congressman running for the U.S. Senate in New York. But the truth is, he's a complete fraud, a corrupt, sexist, and misogynistic man who chooses campaign volunteers based on whether they can satisfy his carnal desires. His campaign spokesperson and director of operations is Tommy Corona (a Joey Silvera at his peak), whom Stern once released from prison and who now returns the favor as his right-hand man, covering up his sex scandals and providing him with volunteer staff. But everything seems to change when journalist Elvira Lawrence (a sensational and dazzling Annette Haven) enters the picture. She suspects the dubious origin of the campaign funds and decides to investigate them against the advice of her own boss, who doesn't want to be implicated in the politician's secrets. Definitely just another day in American politics.
Ron Sullivan (aka Henri Pachard) directed this excellent film that parodies Michael Ritchie's classic, "The Candidate" (1972), starring Robert Redford and Peter Boyle. The alluring Joyce Snyder (who plays Nannette Collier in a non-sexual role) co-wrote this masterpiece of classic adult cinema with Pachard. It's so believable and well-made that, were it not for its explicit content, it could easily rank among the best political dramas of the era. The underrated Annette Heinz also delivers a fantastic performance as the innocent Jodee, an intern in love with the candidate, who is exploited by him in his fundraising schemes for sex. And it is precisely from this premise that the essence of this magnetic story emanates, a story that has become a classic for those who frequented adult theaters seeking a good story peppered with generous doses of sex and a highly erotic narrative elegance.

Katharina, die Nackte Zarin, as it was originally titled, has been a personal obsession of mine since I happened to see a trailer for the film and fell in love with the pouting Uschi Karnat (aka Sandra Nova) who plays Catherine the Great (Katharina) in this film. First, this is an "adult" film. This fact needs to be established at the beginning because part of my interest in the film is how it differs in some ways from other films in this highly formulaic genre. Next, I have seen two versions of this film, a feature running 107 minutes by my DVD player, which focuses more on the story, and a two part film which stresses more the sex at the expense of the story. Which of these versions one would prefer to see might depend on what the viewer is primarily interested in watching the film for. I like both versions! The 107 minute version (the version I saw in French) is the story of Basil, a member of the Queen's army. A Cossack group has started a rebellion and its leader has set himself up as the new Czar. The Cossacks attack Basil's village, killing many of the peasants. Basil seeks help from the Queen, but finds that she is more interested in personal pleasure than matters of state.

This is a thrilling and playful addition to the golden age of adult cinema. With a simple premise, the film offers exactly what one would expect from an adult film of this era: unapologetic sex scenes, believable acting, and a good dose of humor (with some brilliant gags). While it may not be a masterpiece of adult cinema, it certainly offers entertainment and excitement. But if there's one thing this film stands out for, it's basically the stellar appearance of the beautiful and ill-fated Shauna Grant who, although she doesn't play the lead role here, completely devours everything around her when she appears on the scene. She is, precisely, one of the naughty teenagers attending a summer camp for rich girls, forced by their respective parents after having, perhaps, been involved in some mischief.
The production value of "Summer Camp Girls" is somewhat lower than what the great Gary Graver ("V: The Hot One," "Co-Ed Fever," "Indecent Wife," etc.) had been offering us. And although the script is by Harold Lime ("Ecstasy Girls," "Amanda by Night," etc.), the story is rather silly and classic. Therefore, the real value lies in the star-studded cast and the wild landscapes in harmony with the colorful attire of the "schoolgirls." Ultimately, it doesn't seem like a film that takes itself too seriously, even though the sex scenes are explosive and shot with the class and style that the beautiful Shauna Grant deserved.

This is a great example of how a hackneyed hardcore situation - partially suggested by the unimaginative title - can yield pure erotic gold in hands of the right director, in this case the late great Claude Mulot who drowned in the surf at St. Tropez in 1986 and was arguably the finest French fornication filmmaker of the '70s. Borrowing his porn pseudonym of "Frédéric Lansac" from the main character in his initially unsuccessful 1970 horror effort THE BLOOD ROSE, which has since gone on to garner a cult following Post Mortem, he was clearly on a roll during the first few years of legalized Continental core cinema, cracking out one carnal classic after the other (PUSSY TALK, BLUE ECSTASY, SHOCKING!) until a change in government notoriously cracked down on the budding industry's already modest profit margins by charging its entrepreneurs with unreasonably high taxes. Unlike his carnal com-padres, even those slaving away from their relatively cushy position of steady purveyors to production and distribution giant Alpha France, Mulot always tried to preserve at least a modicum of ambition as budgets dwindled.

Three upper-middle-class suburban housewives secretly harbor a sexual past they aren't proud of and hide from their respective husbands. At a very specific moment, the trio of friends receive a call from Alexandra (voiced by Stephanie Rogers), a close childhood friend of their husbands, with whom they formed a recurring high school clique, and whom they've always heard about but never met in person, threatening the three of them with a public reveal of their dirty laundry at a party they're planning to throw under a charity guise. Alexandra also announces that she will leave their lives forever that very night, taking one of their husbands with her. The women's feelings of guilt give rise to numerous exciting erotic episodes, in the form of flashbacks, throughout the film.
Incredibly well directed by the irregular Tim McDonald under the photography supervision of Larry Revene, and produced by the legendary David Friedman, "Alexandra" represents an unusual paradigm in porn, and is an adult version of Joseph Leo Mankiewicz's delicious 1949 classic "Letter to Three Wives”. What's pleasantly surprising is how faithful this version remains to the original, faithfully reproducing the characters and situations, redirecting it towards the adult genre. The dramatic performances of each actress are commensurate with their own talent in the realm of fornication, and the barely of age Jennifer (a Lauren Wilde who disappeared a year later) practically monopolizes the film's spotlight as a supposed gold digger who ends up discovering true love for her middle-aged husband. Actresses Joanna Storm and Rachel Ashley, both in the early stages of their astronomical careers, already showed great potential that was reinforced in their subsequent projects.

Cathy Dupré has just gotten a job as a meter maid. Her boyfriend wakes her up by forcing her to fellate him, and then the two have sex for fifteen minutes. Then Cathy goes to the employment office, where a bunch of women are sitting around masturbating. 33 minutes into the 83-minute film, she finally gets her uniform. I had already pretty much lost patience with L'AUBERGINE by this point, though it earns a touch of goodwill back with a few amusing scenes of Cathy and her coworker, Mika Barthel, on the street, handing out tickets and getting into arguments with drivers. Seems no matter where you live, no one is particularly thrilled to receive a parking ticket. One of the women wanders into a porn theater and watches and then participates in some of the action, while the other rents her uniform to a prostitute so she can fulfil a john's sex fantasy - though since he's late, the two end up making it together first. Everything ends with an orgy, which is arrived at by some narrative avenue I no longer remember. Or maybe it isn't - I was barely paying attention by this point.
