Eat At The Blue Fox (1983)

Directed by: Damon Christian
Starring: Pamela Mann, Kitten Natividad, Ron Jeremy

Language: English original
1,62GB - 83’02’’ - 1024x576 - MKV
USA - DVD

Rick (a lively and likable performance from a surprisingly fit Ron Jeremy) runs a hugely popular and successful south of the border nightclub called the Blue Fox. Complications ensue when the corrupt sheriff T.M. Wade (a deliciously slimy portrayal by Jerry Abrams) demands a bigger piece of the action than he's already getting.
Director Damon Christian keeps the enjoyable story moving along at a zippy pace, maintains an engaging lighthearted tone throughout, and milks plenty of laughs from the amusing sense of blithely raunchy humor. John Finegold's witty script boasts lots of hysterical profane dialogue and choice dirty jokes delivered by Jeremy while doing emcee duties on stage at the club with delightful gusto. The sex scenes are hot, sweaty, and strenuous. A bevy of lovely ladies helps a whole lot: Busty honey Pamela Mann, slim blonde Desiree Lane (her introductory scene in which she happily services a john is a total scorcher), toothsome Theresa Jones, fetching Kimberly Carson, and, best of all, the deliciously buxom Kitten Natividad. Herschel Savage contributes a funny turn as rowdy redneck Reed. Lazaro Valdez also registers well as easygoing piano player Jose. Jack Remy's vibrant color cinematography provides an attractive bright look. A bawdy hoot.

Star Angel (1986)

Directed by: Cecil Howard
Starring: Jerry Butler, Angel, Tigr

Language: English original
1,62GB - 74’03’’ - 720x576 - MKV
USA - DVD

Possibly the most ambitious adult filmmaker of all time, yet thankfully possessing the creative clout to back up his lofty aspirations, Howard Winters was according to popular myth likened by one harried hardcore performer to megalomaniac Hollywood mover 'n' shaker Cecil B. DeMille, a candid comparison he apparently appreciated to such an extent the moniker stuck and "Cecil Howard" saw the official light of day. His allegedly rambunctious on-set demeanor may also have been the reason that the controlling Cecil ended up naming his production and distribution company Command Cinema, exercising rigorous copyright protection in an industry where this was clearly the exception rather than the norm. Henceforth, his mostly magnificent movies are generally not as widely seen as indeed they should, longtime fans clamoring for DVD releases that have yet to materialize as of this writing, with the glorious exception of Media Blasters' R1 de luxe editions of his incomparable NEON NIGHTS and BABYLON PINK, the latter of which he only produced with the late great Ron Sullivan a/k/a "Henri Pachard" directing.

Little Girls Lost… (1983)

Directed by: Ted Roter
Starring: Tigr, Veronica Hart, John Leslie

Language: English original
1,62GB - 95’23’’ - 710x480 - MKV
USA - DVD

Belgian-born director Ted Roter, resorting to his customary "Pierre Balakoff" persona (for the more detailed itinerary of this decidedly oddball filmmaker, please read my comment on his PAUL, LISA AND CAROLINE), ripped off Chuck Vincent's hugely popular cross-over hit ROOMMATES wholesale with this lazy latter-day effort. To the best of my knowledge, he only followed with the marginally more energetic SCANDALOUS SIMONE with Kim Carson essaying the title role. He even borrowed Vincent's award-winning actress Veronica Hart (a/k/a director/producer Jane Hamilton) for one of the leads. None too surprisingly, she turns in the top thespian performance as insecure struggling actress Alicia, although she's a tad mature for the part) in what was to be her last explicit endeavor before retiring to directorial duties and non-sex walk-ons.

The Seduction of Lyn Carter (1974)

Directed by: Anthony Spinelli
Starring: Andrea True, Jamie Gillis, Sharon Thorpe

Language: English original
1,16GB - 75’38’’ - 762x576 - MKV
USA - DVD

Arguably the best of the "Wes Brown" movies, a pseudonym employed by the late great Sam Weston - a/k/a "Anthony Spinelli" - during the first half of the '70s, SEDUCTION OF LYN CARTER provides a chamber piece setting with a small group of characters and a limited number of locations he would return to when shooting on video over a decade later. While the reasons therefore were on one hand undeniably economic, its pared down structure simultaneously offered him the opportunity to explore people's nature and motives regarding their sexual needs with an entomologist's eye for psychological detail. His findings weren't always pretty as this movie and its equally scorching companion piece PORTRAIT OF SEDUCTION illustrate.

Die Beichte der Josefine Mutzenbacher (1978)
AKA Josephine

Directed by: Hans Billian
Starring: Jane Iwanoff, Rainer Abendroth, Hervé Amalou

Language: German original
1,38GB - 75’00’’ - 720x576 - MKV
West Germany - DVD

Yet another Euro film based on the memoirs of goodtime gal Josephine Mutzenbacher (aside from several softcore, there were also the XXX SENSATIONAL JANINE and PROFESSIONAL JANINE). All credits are pseudonymous in the US video version. Several of the plot incidents are also found in PROFESSIONAL JANINE. Among the familiar set pieces are the party at the tavern, including the orchestra, and the missing watch scene.
Josephine, a somewhat hard-looking redhead in her late 20s (Jane Iwanoff), shacked up with a businessman in the city, gets a visit from her country cousin Veronica, whom she initiates into the trade (though I'd say, watching Veronica in action, that she's been there before). After Jo's b.f. catches them partying, the girls have to make their own way, eventually seducing an *old* guy they meet at a brothel into financing a whorehouse of their own.

Outlaw Ladies (1981)
AKA Hot Girls in Love

Directed by: Henri Pachard
Starring: Veronica Hart, Juliet Anderson, Samantha Fox, Candida Royalle

Language: English original
1,62GB - 82’46’’ - 738x576 - MKV
USA - DVD

With the likes of Ron Sullivan, Gerard Damiano and Buck Adams passing away, the year 2008 has turned out to be a dark one for dirty movie directorial talent, each of them having hit their stride during a different decade. Damiano's achievements peaked in the '70s with DEVIL IN MISS JONES and THE STORY OF JOANNA ; Adams illuminated the lackluster '90s with his naughty noir sagas LETHAL PASSION and NO MOTIVE. Though he consistently toiled throughout these decades as well, and indeed started out in '60s sexploitation, Sullivan's star shone most brightly throughout the '80s when he seemingly cranked out one instant classic right after another. Therefore, facing self-inflicted competition from SEXCAPADES, NIGHT HUNGER and TABOO American STYLE to name but a few, it should come as no small praise that OUTLAW LADIES has been singled out more frequently by "those in the know" as his best overall accomplishment. Deceptively simple in set-up, similar to other vignette-structured Sullivan sagas like BABYLON PINK and October SILK, this one reveals subtle touches in its story-telling and a devoted deviant's single-mindedness in erotic execution that elevate the results to adult's upper echelons.

The Story of Joanna (1975)

Directed by: Gerard Damiano
Starring: Jamie Gillis, Terri Hall, Zebedy Colt

Language: English original
1,37GB - 83’10’’ - 704x478 - MKV
USA - DVD

Gerard Damiano, he who gave the world both DEEP THROAT and the original DEVIL IN MISS JONES, desperately wanted to film the scandalous French erotic novel "Story of O" but clearly didn't stand a virgin's chance in a gang bang of acquiring the legal rights to do so. Instead, he wrote an original screenplay liberally based on the book, pretty much as he had adapted Sartre's "No Exit" for MISS JONES, adding a moral (believe it or not) subtext to the whole story. This stands not only as one of Damiano's finest films however but quite simply as one of the very best adult movies ever made.
Hauntingly sad-eyed Terri Hall plays the titular Joanna, an innocent débutante singled out by wealthy womanizer Jason (the always intriguing Jamie Gillis) for degradation. As any long-suffering literary heroine worth her salt, Joanna takes it all on the chin (trust me, no pun intended...) in the name of love. There is method to Jason's madness however as we find out that he is dying of a mysterious disease and,as a final grand gesture, wants to be killed by one who loves him above all else.

Virginia (1983)

Directed by: John Seeman
Starring: Shauna Grant, Paul Thomas, Janey Robbins

Language: English original
1,61GB - 92’36’’ - 752x576 - MKV
USA - DVD

This movie gets no respect. Though it cleaned up at the 1984 AFAA (Adult Film Association of America) Awards, it was widely held accountable for the founding of the XRCO (X-Rated Critics Organization). This splinter group consisted of disgruntled porno reviewers (led by the likes of the late Jim Holliday) no longer in agreement with the AFAA's decisions which they felt lost track of the genre's true reason for being (i.e. pulse-pounding eroticism) by grovelling for mainstream acceptance with prizes bestowed upon movies that were well made in terms of plot, acting and cinematography but contained little or no hot sex. An early directorial effort (after 1980's BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN and to be followed by the massively hyped TEN LITTLE MAIDENS and the unjustly overlooked MISSING PIECES) by longtime performer John Seeman (who had played the sympathetic chauffeur in Richard Kanter's landmark DESIRES WITHIN YOUNG GIRLS), VIRGINIA deserves to be remembered for reasons extending well beyond the XRCO's instigation.

Sound of Love (1982)

Directed by: Alan Vydra
Starring: Annette Haven, Jesie St. James, Debbie Cole

Language: English original
1,61GB - 74’15’’ - 720x576 - MKV
USA - DVD

A conductor has grown tired of sex, ignoring his wife played by the always beautiful Annette Haven, but his masterpiece is to be a recording of women having orgasms. He hires a sound engineer to procure them, in stereo. With $500 an orgasm at stake he takes matters into his own hands with a half dozen different women, including the wife of course, to fulfill his clients wishes.
Because of the theme of the movie, the sounds are very authentic making the scenes more memorable. This movie also appears to have been filmed before all sense of style and plot went away in the adult film industry. It is interesting that according to the date of release Crystal Breeze would have been 16 during filming, but she sure doesn't look it. She is also credited as Mindy Cole on the Excalibur release.

The Good Girls of Godiva High (1980)

Directed by: Jim Buckley
Starring: Kitsy Storme, Denise Sloan, Richard Bolla

Language: English original
1,60GB - 85’05’’ - 748x576 - MKV
USA - DVD

A very successful porn director (DEBBIE DOES DALLAS), Jim Buckley is relatively unsung, probably because he was not prolific and seemed to be a 1-note artist specializing in the underage-looking girls genre.
THE GOOD GIRLS OF GODIVA HIGH is an arousing example of this type of film, and holds up pretty well 30 years hence. It combines craftsmanship with sloppiness, and while hardly classic cinema (of any sort), delivers the goods.
Premise through much of the film is the young school girls planning to stage a disco graduation party, meeting with resistance from their headmistress Miss Lena (Susan De Angelis, the best-looking actress in the movie). Running a relatively long 85 minutes, film nonetheless abandons or merely forgets about this premise, so that after endless bickering, cajoling and plotting, the party never happens and is never even mentioned in the final reel.

Body Love (1978)

Directed by: Lasse Braun
Starring: Catherine Ringer, Michel Caputo, Glenda Farrel

Language: English original, French
1,59GB - 76’08’’ - 752x576 - MKV
West Germany, Netherlands, France - DVD

Probably the most widely HEARD adult film of all time, BODY LOVE has been known primarily as a best-selling soundtrack album (to a movie few confessed seeing) by ex-Tangerine Dream electronics whiz Klaus Schulze.
An Italian born in French Algeria, Alberto Ferro traveled to Scandinavia in the late '60s to benefit from relaxing censorship laws by producing pornography under the Nordic pseudonym of "Lasse Braun", working from France, Germany, Holland, Italy and even the ridiculously restricted England.
Braun employs his bare bones narrative as yet another forum for spouting his often questionable philosophies on free love and the benefits of pornography in long-winded diatribes. These are handled with surprising aplomb in the original French version, at least by a cast equally at ease with emoting as ejaculating.

Roommates (1982)

Directed by: Chuck Vincent
Starring: Samantha Fox, Veronica Hart, Kelly Nichols

Language: English original + Commentary
Subtitles: English, Spanish (optionals not embedded)

3,89GB - 89’01’’ - 1920x1040 - MP4
USA - Bluray

I don't know if I would dare to classify this film as an ordinary cinematographic work with real sex scenes, or as a sensationally written and starred pornographic film, as would happen with a conventional film of a certain level.
Perhaps that is the disappointing factor about Roommates, since the people who went to the premiere to see it were undoubtedly expecting a standard adult work, knowing, of course, that it would be a show in any case interestingly filmed by Chuck Vincent. And what they ultimately brought to the retinas was a spectacular drama with splashes of explicit sex that attract attention, not so much for the usual crudeness of the genre, but for quite the opposite, for showing sex in a very superficial, even romantic, way with short, natural and even dramatic sexual scenes. As if they said: "let's finish this, we must return to the plot line."
And the truth is that no one (and I repeat NO ONE) goes to the movies to see Veronica Hart or Samantha Fox to enjoy their artistic or acting skills. Although they do it very well here. With this I do not want to belittle this work of Vincent. Absolutely not. But there is more sex in some famous mainstream movies than in Chuck Vincent's Roommates. Although it surpasses some in cinematographic quality.

Pandora’s Mirror (1981)

Directed by: Shaun Costello
Starring: Veronica Hart, Jamie Gillis, Sandra Hillman

Language: English original
Subtitles: English, Spanish (optionals not embedded)
4,00GB - 93’49’’ - 1480x1080 - MKV
USA - Bluray

This one isn't bad as skin flicks go. The production values are high anyway. One of the actors even knows how to jump a horse over a low barrier. The plot is episodic -- aren't they all? -- but linked by a central theme, a mirror that was struck by lightning three hundred years ago or something and reflects some of the encounters of its previous owners.
The acting is what you'd expect. I can't identify most of the performers, and it's been a long time since I've seen it, but Veronica Hart wouldn't be entirely out of place in a part in a movie designed for a more general audience. And Hart's friend and rival has an appealing goofy quality and is given the best lines, including one that contains a reference to Olivia Newton John's gynecologist. Aside from her quirkiness, she's quite beautiful in a non-Hollywood way and constantly wears an expression that occupies some middle territory between pain and amusement.
