Pioneer pornographer Torgny Wickman followed his successful white coaters (including LANGUAGE OF LOVE) with this variation on the theme: more closely resembling "reality" programs like "An American Family". It's well done, even the fake parts.
My bias is a bit different, since I consider all the recent Reality TV shows as fake. But back in the early days of feature-length porn there was never any question about ersatz, since porn performers were the talent pool.
That's the case with LOVE-PLAY, with an obvious segment starring the team of Jack Frank and Kim Frank. They were popular explicit sex performers who made several XXX films for director Mac Ahlberg, and their explicit scene here is more of the same.
The bulk of LOVE-PLAY is well-lensed (by future Bergman cinematographer Tony Forsberg) and concerns a family of four, viewed vérité style going about their normal life. They are presented as healthy, not nudists but often nude, and basically well-adjusted. It helps present sex in an open-minded context.
There is a segment about lesbianism, but generally the film is not sensational-minded. Of course, the inevitable visit to a live-sex show provides the usual sexploitation/mondo content, but even then the mixed audience reaction does not seem as smutty as the typical presentation (of dirty-old men types) one gets in American or British movies.

After returning from Egypt, Abraham and his nephew Lot separate and Lot settles outside of Sodom with his wife and two daughters. Lot’s eldest daughter Leah captures the eye of the city’s king, Bera, but due to his impotency there is a ban on lovemaking. Meanwhile two astronauts, assigned to Earth to observe Sodom and to cure the people of a gonorrhea epidemic, institute a circumcision program with the aid of Abraham.
Begins with a classically stupid "braino" by a New York Judge, who pronounces that some of the Mitchell Bros. movies "...would have violated community standards in Sodom and Gomorrah..." (For the records, sexual practices in pre-Hebraic Palestine embraced temple prostitution (both male and female), anal intercourse, exhibitionism, orgies and a good deal else.)
The story opens with a fight and a familiar story. Lot, his wife and daughters separate from the rest of the tribe and head for the unknown city of Sodom. There, they become temporarily enmeshed with a society where anal intercourse is a brutally enforced community standard. Shortly afterward, two space travelers with an incomprehensible obsession about human venereal disease "raid the party", sparing only Lot and his family. (This last element seems to have been adapted from Eric Von Daniken's books. He was popular at that time.)
Overall, this is the best erotic film ever made. Attractive young people having pleasantly varied sex with no barriers in sight. It leaves the bored supermodels of today's porn films far behind. The SF Bay Area was a great place to be in the mid-'70s if you were horny. This was filmed near Castro Valley, due to the better filming weather. Just warm enough to make romping around in the nude to be delightfully comfortable.

Jacques made pornographic films in the 1970s and '80s, but had put that aside for 20 years. His artistic ideas, born of the '60s counter-culture, had elevated the entire genre. Older and paunchier, he is now directing a porno again. Jacques's artistry clashes with his financially-troubled producer's ideas about shooting hard-core sex. He has been estranged from his son Joseph for years, since the son first learned the nature of the family business. They are now speaking again. Joseph and his friends want to recapture the idealism of 1968 with a protest. Separated from his wife, Jacques strives for personal renewal with plans to build a new house by himself.
This film marks the first time I saw a penetration scene on a basic cable channel. It's significant, if not technically or artistically amazing.
It was in medium shot, and at first I thought it was more simulated softcore nonsense since the gentleman appeared to be positioned too far away during coitus. Turns out he was just impressively endowed.
'Pornographe' turns in good performances from the actors, especially Leaud. He has the kind of homeopathic presence that made Sarah Polley famous. From a distance, the French national character appears understated, and quite reserved. Contrast that with the classic German, who is full of bluster, extroverted positivity, and usually neat as a pin. The English, finally, appear perpetually drunk and flooding the sidewalk with urine.
The long meditative shots of trees were meant to convey atmosphere, but kind of made me feel like I was waiting at a bus-stop. A minor complaint - it's worth seeing.

Jennifer and her husband Fred seek out their old lovers for another fling in this erotic drama. Fred hooks up with the prostitute Rosalba, while Jennifer returns to the arms of the handsome pimp Ciro. The unfaithful couple return to each other after the affairs prove to be less satisfying then the memory of their initial experiences.
A well executed erotic movie delivering a good story as well as acting ability. A couple go to Capri to refresh their marriage but recall their past during 1945 of life on the island and the relationships they had. On the whole Tinto Brass does an excellent job and is worth a look if you like Tonto movies. Better than later movies. This movie along with the key and the voyeur I regard as the best. The sets scenery and location are all perfect and as usual a big budget movie like this seems to deliver, on the negative side, not much to say apart from more intrigue and story would of been good you know pretty much what is going to happen from the beginning. Tinto Brass a true leading director of erotic movies and stands alone. With no one to replace him.

The subject of this film is "ambivalence" to the core - exquisitely photographed by Mac Ahlberg, excellent ensemble acting led by Mikko Nousiainen as Ari, well written, witty, and deceptively clever on multiple levels, sexy, but not exploitive, featuring a kind of existential numbness to the beauty and meaning of the world spinning around Ari, who, while extremely attractive and intelligent, just doesn't have a clue about any sense of values or distinguishing importance about the people in his life, professionally or personally, whose lives are nearly destroyed by his self-centered, personally indulgent, yet unsatisfied life style, which freely allows him to pick up and screw other friend's girl friends without regard for the disastrous consequences, who lives in a perpetual state of lovelessness, sex for the sake of sex, so to speak, knowing virtually nothing about his partners, the less the better, such is the state of his emotional uninvolvement.
The film links his sexual exploration with his quest for spiritual redemption, which, personally, I found a bit premature, as a guy like Ari will always be a wandering soul, an existential nomad, especially when his needs are strangled by so-called mainstream relationships. This is kind of a MAD MAX with sex rather than cars, as Ari is wandering through the same wastelands.

Paul Vecchiali's work is an acquired taste, as he is a filmmaker who marches to the beat of his own drum, never fashionable or popular. Produced by a famous pornographer of the day (Jean-Francois Davy of "Exhibition" fame) it's a rare mainstream (sort of) movie that carefully integrates explicit hardcore sex content into a strong story.
Like other of his films, notably "Femme Femme", Vecchiali seems most influenced from the Nouvelle Vague by Jacques Rivette, with his strong heroines and challenging mix of camp with seriousness. Here we have Myriam Mezieres, an uninhibited performer who takes Paul's challenge to do strong soft-core sex scenes to heart, as a trench-coated hard-boiled detective, with most of the many prominent roles going to similarly tough women. Her case is to investigate what's going on with Helene Surgere's adult son, who we see at the opening of the film starring in a hardcore black & white stag movie that leaves nothing to the imagination.
With plenty of shoot-outs and mock-violence, Vecchiali creates a strange, campy world for her to move in, revolving around a nightclub where drag queens perform on stage alongside cis-females, wigs are on everybody, and cast members sometimes burst into song or dance without provocation. There are several orgies integrated into the convoluted plot, both staged both soft-core and hardcore, and ultimately when the story is resolved and a scandal blasted across the front page of the newspapers, we see Myriam walking away with the imagery of a serious film as conclusion.
