For some reason, a peculiar critical backlash occurred following an initially favorable reception for this classy collaboration between producer Ted "Harold Lime" Paramore and filmmaker Gary "Robert McCallum" Graver (both of whom have regrettably passed on in recent years), establishing it as the most unjustly maligned among their string of joint ventures including the legendary likes of THE ECSTASY GIRLS, CO-ED FEVER and AMANDA BY NIGHT. Of course, way back in 1981, adult cinema's avowed Golden Age was still in full swing, audiences were spoiled for choice and any carnal commentator worth his salt could afford to be finicky about his likes or dislikes. In this case, the script by Paramore and C.W. O'Hara - who went on to pen SATISFACTIONS, CENTER SPREAD GIRLS and SOCIETY AFFAIRS for the same team - bore the brunt of their misaimed wrath, undoubtedly due to a third act radical shift in tone from ribaldry to soul-searching throwing them for a loop. Never mind that the movie contained more common wisdom and emotional truth than at least half a dozen Woody Allen films !

Probably in the wake of so many successful European porn films and the glamorous Radley Metzger/Henry Paris epics, FJ Lincoln concocted this bit of a mish-mash about a fashion photographer (Gillis) and his goofy sidekick (good old Joey Silvera at his most scatterbrained) on the loose in Paris. Touristy local color shots and other photography delivers laudable production values and the brilliant Joao Fernandes (Damiano's genius d.p. on his classic films) shot U.S. scenes and studio work, including a massive set piece apparently filmed at the old Hellfire Club in the Meatpacking District.
Very flimsy story premise is XXX right out of a 1940s Hollywood screwball comedy (fortunately back then they didn't subject Rosalind Russell or Claudette Colbert to explicit sex scenes). Gillis has two apartments and two identities (Paul and Philippe) whereby he is two- timing two sisters Michelle and Martine (played by okay looking but not beautiful French actresses France Lomay and Natasha). Goofy wrinkle is that Jamie is intent on having sex with both of them together, basically a variation on the old porn standby of humping twins. Though Joey doesn't like the idea he helps out his buddy and the resulting antics aren't very funny. Gillis eventually concocts the notion of a masqued ball, where with Silvera's help he can get the two gals together unbeknownst to them, but that stratagem misfires. Gillis used the same gimmick, successfully in the awful Carlos Tobalina film SENSUAL FIRE (1979), only that time to hump his step-daughter Dorothy LeMay without her catching on.

The middle-aged Aggie (Deborah Ashira) is sitting around taking care of her wheel-chair bound partner and wondering where her life has gone. Through a series of flashbacks we see the various sexual encounters that she has had in her life.
MEMORIES WITHIN MISS AGGIE was the third feature from director Gerard Damiano after the ground-breaking DEEP THROAT and the much better DEVIL IN MISS JONES. This film here is about as dark and as somber sa you can get and when it was originally released there was all sorts of controversy surrounding it. If anything this proves that Damiano was a lot more talented than something like DEEP THROAT would lead you to believe.
What I enjoyed the most about this film is how the various flashbacks are all performed by a different actress. I really thought this brought a surreal feel to the picture and mix this in with the bizarre atmosphere and very laid-back approach and you've got an adult film with a real adult subject matter that plays everything straight. This certainly isn't a fun picture or one that simply goes for cheap sexual thrills.

Everybody knows the French don't waste any time when it comes to the art of making love. At the start of "Perversions of a Young Bride", aka "French Blues" (?) we witness a couple (Ghislain van Hove and Danièle David ) just finishing a bout of intercourse, only to find out they are just friends. In fact, she's the best friend of his fiancée. Turns out they had some time on their hands while the bride, Marie-Christine (the legendary Brigitte Lahaie) is getting ready. So, the groom (already in his tux) and the best friend flip through Marie-Christine's scrapbook of love, a photo album featuring pictures of lovers and their private parts. Of course, each one has a story attached, and luckily Danièle knows them all. After all, every guy loves to hear about the sex live of the woman he loves.
Four flashbacks make up most of this film's running time. The first recounted encounter features Thierry de Brem as Alban being warmed up for La Lahaie by her maid Joelle (Jenny Feeling). Recollection # two is no fairy tale, this time Marie-C and Joelle have to submit to beastly Bruno (Alban Ceray)'s demands. Next up is the required lesbian interlude: Brigitte and Mandarine are trying on some clothes, but decide it would be more fun to try out each other. Of course the maid joins in as well. The last and least Backo de Flasho starts with Brigitte and Danièle in bed with two men, but Brigitte soon takes a back seat to watch Mademoiselle David try to take on both of their guests.

The first of the intimistic explorations of male menopausal angst director "Cecil" Howard Winters and his regular screenwriter Anne "Randall" Wolff collaborated upon, thematically followed by SNAKE EYES, DANGEROUS STUFF and STAR ANGEL. Its comparatively minimalist approach, favoring the thespian prowess of performers too often relegated to mere horizontal duties, made for a jarring change from the lavish all star episodic epics like PLATINUM PARADISE and FOXTROT on which he had built his fame. Such expensive endeavors were rapidly becoming a thing of the past with the increasing affordability of home video systems leading to the demise of the porno picture palaces of yore as sex was once again scaled down to bedroom proportions. While this inevitable evolution forced many fine fornication filmmakers to compromise their artistic vision due to budgetary constraints, Howard held out longer than most, helped no doubt by the fact that he was also his own producer and sole VHS distributor (on US soil at least), with his company Command Video adopting a stringent pricing strategy, with the quality to back it up, as rival entrepreneurs quickly dropped their product to cut-rate "catalog prices".

Sensational pornographic thriller filmed in mainstream style, in which an urban psychopath, a former police officer expelled from the force, takes advantage of his acquired knowledge to pursue, harass and rape different women. His violent and misogynistic nature leads him to an escalation of crimes while, at the same time, he poses as a law enforcement agent to extort shady deals and compulsively listen to the police radio while tracking down his next victim.
It seems like a very interesting erotic exercise that Lee Frost (a director more versed in R-rated plots) applies here, including explicit sex scenes, of course, and providing a certain realism to the violent vignettes.
In certain sexual acts one immediately senses the use of substitute actresses, as well as the technical resource of close-ups to avoid discovery. And that is where A Climax of Blue Power falters, a masterful film embedded in the underworld of commercial pornography.

An unnamed private eye (played by veteran performer Eric Edwards) receives a phone call from worried businessman Mr. Mann (Alan Marlow, the womanizer reincarnated in female form in Roberta Findlay's ANGEL #9) who suspects that his wife Pamela (gorgeous Barbara Bourbon, the violated farmer's wife from David Fleetwood's A DIRTY WESTERN) may be fooling around on him. Trailing the sexy socialite, Edwards uncovers all sorts of naughtiness. Having got the idea from a dinner conversation about Gerard Damiano's box office blast DEEP THROAT, very much the scandal du jour at the time, she obviously wants to see whether she can perform Linda Lovelace's "Look, ma, no gag reflex" party trick by picking up a stranger (the massively endowed Marc Stevens, an early bisexual performer) near the Brooklyn bridge and going down on him right there and then. She supplies social rehabilitation services for happy hooker Klute (legendary adult actress Georgina Spelvin) in one of the all time Sapphic encounters and drags off a moral reformer running for mayor (beefy Sonny Landham, ironically cast in retrospect considering the political upheaval he would cause in later life) for a quickie mere moments prior to his addressing a women's group. A drawn-out garage rape sequence (missing from VCA's recent DVD release) by a pair of propaganda-spouting revolutionaries (perennial bad boy Jamie Gillis and Darby Lloyd Rains, who would rejoin forces with Metzger on NAKED CAME THE STRANGER) might seem somewhat out of place due to its – admittedly cartoonish – brutality, until the director turns the tables by the last act revelation that Pamela's "rapists" are actually her domestics and part of the whole set-up. The couple have in fact constructed these elaborate games to spice up their marriage, hiring a series of good looking detectives to capture their escapades on film, Pamela's seduction of the investigator (who subsequently refuses all remuneration as he has "failed" in his assignment) forever the final movement of their association.

No idea why the classic XXX film BELLA has been forgotten -it is definitely worth rediscovering. IMDb has it dated as released in 1980, but the Arrow DVD bears a copyright date of 1974, agreeing with the year listed in Alan Goble's ground-breaking movie index book.
Confusion may have come about due to the title role being played by beautiful Tracy Adams -she is not the famous porn star of that name (I'm submitting a fix to IMDb right now). Both are beautiful women but do not even vaguely resemble each other, as this Tracy is nearly six inches shorter than the famous Tracey (please watch BELLA and see for yourself). I suspect that since Tracey would have been underage at the time someone has altered the film's date erroneously.
Credited to writer-director Alexander Kubelka and scored by a legitimate composer, BELLA is an atmospheric romantic drama that perhaps is too artsy for the mainstream porn consumer of today, or 1974 for that matter. At the time my favorite hardcore film was Damiano's MEMORIES WITHIN MISS AGGIE, which like BELLA shows the influence of great filmmakers like Ingmar Bergman.

Well-directed by Christoph Clark, this Laure Sainclair vehicle shows the great French star in all her loveliness, but wisely surrounds her with an attractive cast in a simple but engaging story of conflict over an inheritance.
Stealing several scenes is the seemingly rightful heir Victoria Queen, a svelte redhead who is the deceased gangster's widow. But Laure is his long-lost daughter, flown into Budapest to be informed the man's estate is willed to her.
Much of the action concerns a strip club called Aphrodite that doubles as a brothel, over which Laure decides to take a hands-on ownership role. End credits indicate that the actual strippers working at this club make up part of the attractive cast, with director Clark featuring well over a dozen beauties.

This adult classic is late filmmaker Alex De Renzy's own personal favorite among a body of work that includes the likes of BABYFACE, FEMMES DeSADE and WILD THINGS. Many fans agree. Personally, I think that while some of his other movies might be more impressive on a purely sexual scale (the now extremely hard to locate FEMMES DeSADE in particular) this one surely stands as his best combination of hardcore sex with a honest to goodness light 'n' breezy bit o'plot.
Said plot actually derives from Voltaire's literary classic "Candide" about a naive young thing being manipulated by all and sundry. This story is better known to most people from the saucy reworking it received by Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg for their '60s bestseller "Candy", itself subjected to a heavily compromised film version with Ewa Aulin essaying the title role with an all star cast including Richard Burton and, er, Ringo Starr ?
The adult industry has adapted this timeless tale on (at least) three major occasions, De Renzy's attempt here being both the best as well as best known. Former Playmate Gail Palmer allegedly helmed (in actuality, she was always ably supported by the likes of Bob Chinn and Jeffrey Fairbanks) EROTIC ADVENTURES OF CANDY the same year PEACHES came out with former GONG SHOW bimbette Carol Connors (mother of mainstream actress Thora Birch !) who would also star in the slightly lesser sequel CANDY GOES TO Hollywood. Gerard (DEEP THROAT) Damiano revived the character (sort of) for his late '80s CANDY'S LITTLE SISTER SUGAR with the adorable Ariel Knight. Late prince of carnal comedy Chuck Vincent finally brought the tale to the screen in his own inimitable manner with DIRTY LILLY, putting saucy squaw Beth Anna (the Hyaptia Lee of the '70s) through her paces, emphasizing as per usual fun over, er, frolicking.

Harriet (Lisa De Leeuw) notices that her boss (Robert Kerman) is banging a hooker named Lucy (Lee Carroll) so she asks for a few pointers. Pretty soon the two women become friends and go on a sexual odyssey.
MASCARA was directed by Henri Pachard with an uncredited job by cult favorite Roberta Findlay who also produced the film as well as shot it. If you're a fan of the New York City era porno movies from this era then you're going to enjoy this one as it offers up a pretty good story, some great sex scenes as well as a very fun cast.
What I enjoyed most about this film was the actual performance by De Leeuw who really does seem to have a fire going on inside her. She was really good in the various sex acts throughout the film and I thought she was also quite believable with her performance when it came to the acting. She and Carroll had a nice chemistry together and they both really made you believe the story. Several familiar faces are on display here including Ron Jeremy at the star as well as cult favorite Kerman in a brief scene.

Tony Hudson plays adult film director Harry, a man who is ten days behind schedule on his current film and his bosses (the Mob) want a finished product. Harry is struggling with life because he wants to do something other than just a sex picture and this is starting to have an impact on his actress/girlfriend (Susan (Sharon Mitchell).
While watching SKIN-FLICKS you can't help but notice the various things that director Gerard Damiano was trying to say and get across. There's a lot of interesting things dealing with the behind-the-scenes making of an adult picture but this film mainly works because of its story, which is basically a director not being happy because they're unable to expand and do something that they really want.
The film benefits from two very strong performances in the lead. In fact, both Hudson and Mitchell are so strong that you really could see their performances in a mainstream Hollywood picture. Both of them were perfect for their roles and certainly very believable as well. You've also got Jamie Gillis showing up in a brief part playing a creep.

There's a freshness to this Laure Sinclaire rom-com from Marc Dorcel that belies its age, shot way back in 1996. Despite advances in technology (Hi-def anyone?), the video preserved later on DVD looks far more beautiful and vivid in color than current and recent porn.
Perhaps that's a testament to d.p. Serge de Beaurivage, who shot most of the Dorcel titles of that era. In any event, this light fluff concerning observant (to the point of being a voyeuse) Laure as a house maid in a home where sex is pre-eminent is marvelously entertaining and features a wonderful cast. Adding to the fun is the inclusion of several stylish erotic fantasies imagined by Laure, one in which she is a cat-burglar observing sex by her victims (and joining in for a threesome) or an elegant lesbian-threesome uniting her with beautiful and curvaceous co-stars Anita Blond and Lea Martini styled in Middle Eastern get-ups.

French porn film has Francois (Guy Royer) playing the luckiest man alive. He sets out for a drive and ends up coming across countless beautiful women who fulfill his every sexual need. This includes a cute hitchhiking couple, a woman (Brigitte Lahaie) trying to get away from her husband, a woman (Karine Gambler) with car problems and then countless others. Also known as TWO AT ONCE and HITCH HIKERS IN HEAT, this French porno doesn't have too much story but there's no question that it contains some pretty good scenes throughout the picture. I'm going to guess that the main draw is going to be the legendary Lahaie but even though she gets top-billing in a few ads, she's actually only in the picture a short time. Her first sequence really isn't all that good and then we get a fun twist that leads to another rather bland scene. There's no doubt that the best sequence is the first involving the hitchhikers but there's quite a bit here for fans of the genre to enjoy. Even fans of director Jean Rollin will enjoy seeing Lahaie and fans of Jess Franco will get to see Gambler who appeared in many of the Spanish filmmaker's movies.

Ferrara's first feature-length film is this hardcore effort about a rich New Yorker (Pauline LaMonde) who writes to her tarot card reading friend (Dominique Santos) about her various sexual encounters. These encounters include various men and women and we also get a sequence in a gas station bathroom where she pretty much has to rape the worker. Ferrara has pretty much forgotten all about this film as he had his name changed in the credits to Jimmy Boy L. and whenever asked about his first film, he actually talks about his second, THE DRILLER KILLER. It's funny but this and THE DRILLER KILLER actually have quite a bit in common. THE DRILLER KILLER was a horror film that contained gore and violence yet it pretty much tried to stay away from the genre as if the director was just forced into making it. I think the same can be said here because we get hardcore scenes yet they're filmed in a way as if the director was saying he'd much rather be doing something else. This might be why he's also refused to talk about the film or have anything to do with it. The sex scenes are all rather ugly without any decent camera-work but this could be said about the entire film. It looks incredibly cheap and seems to have been put together on the run. Ferrara does manage to create a rather weird atmosphere but the voice over narration and silly dialogue doesn't help matters. One of the most outrageous scenes has a father passing out drunk and then his two daughters rape him. Yes, not step daughters but actual daughters. There's a rumor that Ferrara was involved in hardcore scenes but I really don't think that's the case. He appears in a scene but I think it's rather obvious, due to the editing, that there's a stand-in doing the actual work. In the end, there are certainly much better hardcore movies out there so this here is going to be for Ferrara fans who want to see the film he wants nothing to do with. I'm not sure what he has against this movie but it's certainly a lot better than THE DRILLER KILLER.
