Somewhat notorious hardcore film from director Roberta Findlay is pretty much a take-off on Roman Polanski's REPULSION. In the film, the mentally disturbed Karen (Tara Chung) is left home alone and soon begins to have hallucinations that slowly drive her insane and forces her to attack several people that she comes into contact with. When I say attack, that includes both sexually and in a more violent nature.
A WOMAN'S TORMENT has a small cult following thanks in large part to the director's whose own popularity seems to be growing more in the digital age but the film is also known for some rather bizarre and violent moments. I'm not going to sit here and call this a "good" movie but at the same time it's somewhat refreshing seeing Findlay trying to more than your typical 70's bump 'n grind film. This one here certainly tries to be something more than that and I give the director credit because there are some pretty good things here and especially her directing skills. I thought the scenes involving the woman's slow breakdown were shot extremely well and I also thought that the director did a good job at showing this woman coming undone.

Generally I don't like to just regurgitate what everyone else is saying about any given film; but you can't write a review for Thundercrack without stating that the film is weird. The closest movie I've seen to this one in terms of style is probably the Greek oddity Singapore Sling in that both films combine a classic styling with some real sleazy sex. However, even Singapore Sling doesn't come close to the weirdness of this film; how and why this film ever got made is anyone's guess as on paper; a two and a half long black and white film about a bunch of people engaging in perverted sex inside a creaky old house cant have sounded all that good...but while the film is not for everyone, it certainly stands tall as a very interesting slice of cult cinema. The film doesn't exactly have a plot, and starts by focusing on an old mansion where we are introduced to its insane owner. From there, we move on to a group of strangers who end up stranded at the mansion. The rest of the film features all the involved parties as they engage in a whole host of sexual activity.

A couple of thugs rob gold from the peaceful miners, then they steal their women. This leads to fighting, making up, a threesome in a brothel. Credited to "Hans Christian", who has his own IMDb page, but apparently is one and the same as cameraman Henning Schellerup, the movie looks good, has decent location photography, and even the period dress rings true. It's simple-minded in script, but no dumber than any of dozens of Charles Starrett B-Westerns of the '40s and '50s cranked out by Columbia. Looking a bit like both Val Avery and William Conrad, William Guhl is effective in the title role, as a 19th Century huckster traveling the West with his plain-Jane but sexy daughter Jenny (an unidentified actress) selling a tonic for $1 a bottle which seemingly has aphrodisiac qualities,. He formerly had a gold mine in a small town he returns to, but evil Garett (Tony Vorno, who looks a lot like soft porn star Gary Kent) has stolen his supposedly tapped out mine. Minor plot line here has Carstairs settling old scores with Garett.

I liked this movie. It's very dark in how it show us the world of today, don't get your hopes up. You are left on your own and nobody is going to help you.
The story is not that special and does not really leave an imprint, but the pictures and the mood make it a nice view. The gloom and the feeling of being unable to make a difference kind of get to you. It have the basics for it's genre: rape (repeatedly), torture, violence, nudity (but censored - kind of funny here in the western world where some nudity is OK, but the violence showed in this movie would make our censors go nuts), help from people you don't expect. Downright Evil bosses of some strange trafficking organization. Drug abuse, Malplaced showering scenes. Evil for it's own sake.
This is not a movie that I'm gonna see over and over again but I would recommend it to my friends (but not to my parents). If you like the genre this is slightly more than one hour well spent. It have a nice twist at the end and does not finish like you expect.

I learned of "3 a.m." from the documentary "They'll Love Me When I'm Dead," during which it was revealed Orson Welles assisted Gary Graver -- Welles' cinematographer for "The Other Side of the Wind" as well as directing "3 a.m." under his Robert McCallum moniker in editing one of its sex scenes so Graver could get back to work on "Wind."
That the director of "Citizen Kane" helped edit a hardcore movie is a juicy morsel of gossip, but it's not the sole reason to see this movie. Made at the height of the porno chic era, "3 a.m." plays more like a domestic drama than a sex film, which is to say it's more of an adult film than a trashy porno movie. The axis on which the movie's story turns is Kate (Georgina Spelvin), a spinster living with her sister Elaine (Rhonda Gellard) and who's been carrying on a 15-year affair with Elaine's husband, Mark (Frank Mauro, who resembles a more attractive Jamie Gillis). Then Mark is accidentally killed, leaving Kate trying to keep the surviving family -- including Elaine's "teen" kids Stacey (freckle-faced Clair Dia) and Ronnie (Charles Hopper) -- together and her secrets hidden. And also have sex in the shower with a random hippie chick (Judith Hamilton), who otherwise has nothing to do with the story.

The sex scenes are intense and highly erotic, filmed with a surreal beauty and production design that offers a thematic coherence rarely seen in adult films. Harry Manfredini, the man who became famous for his musical contribution to "Friday the 13th," also composed the music for this sumptuous and original explicit film, a clear inspiration for future productions in the industry. Although conceived as a pornographic film, the high quality of the final production allowed for an erotic version to be made for general audiences. While some of the performances (featuring porn veterans like Terri Hall) are not entirely convincing, other actors are truly magnificent (such as Catharine Burgess herself or the ever-present "villain" Jaime Gillis).

A Satanist uses a mental asylum as cover for his black magic coven. We are in the era of the sleazy slashers and the exploitations on 42nd street. This is one example that survived his time due the combination of a little bit of horror elements and a lot of explicit sex. For the time being it is a bit of soft core, everything is shown but it really isn't hardcore. And there is a storyline in it. The performances are okay too and it is all shot in a nice way, of course there are some mistakes left in the movie, for example almost on the end the boom appears in front of the camera and an unwilling cumshot is taped too. You can notice that the girl doesn't want to go on but that it wasn't seen by the director. It is an extremely hard to find this flick, for me it isn't clear why, maybe because it's soft and doesn't has extremities in it like Candy Stripers or Waterpower also from those days. So if your in for some explicit nudity then this movie is yours.

Jess Franco returns to the same ground as Eugenie...The Story of Her Journey Into Perversion and delivers a pretty good remake and certainly one of the best films I've seen from his Golden Era productions (1, 2, 3, 4).
A naive young woman is sexually preyed upon by a man and woman who plan on selling her to a bizarre couple who will sexually torture the girl. The only problem is that the couple, both the man and woman, begin to have feelings for the girl. We've seen Franco tackle the Eugenie theme countless times but it's one element that he always nails on the head. There's really not too much that happens in this film as Franco takes his sweet time with every single scene by extending them to their fullest. For the most part this works but there are a few scenes that become rather boring including a three-minute toe sucking scene. However, Franco always captures sexuality perfectly and that's the case here.
Franco's also known for using the same cast members over and over but this film features all fresh faces, which made the film more interesting to watch for someone who is nearing one-hundred films viewed by the director. The director doesn't pull any punches during the violent ending and manages to make it quite hard to watch even though there's no graphic violence. The film has terrific cinematography and a great score that makes this one of the director's better efforts, although newbies certainly shouldn't start here.

Her prison time has led her to hate all women, and she sets out to sexually torture and murder anyone who dares enter her old home.
Villa Maledetta, 13. Stay away from this address, where a psychotic woman has killed her husband, caught in the act together with a prostitute. Today, the deranged lunatic keeps herself in shape contacting other assorted call girls and giving them a lesson in bondage and fake gore. A pitiable ultra-pathetic Italian commissioner investigates, whilst a coroner cuts plastic bodies in a sort of a garage dispatched for a morgue. Venice is the unaware background for this dreadful, unwatchable video garbage, directed (if "direction" is a word I can use) by Andreas Bethmann, alias the leader of German DVD distribution X Rated.

Unfortunately, all this artfulness is in the service of a threadbare plot, ninety minutes spent with a despicable main character. After losing several classmates to a freak boating accident, Nick wanders through a long day in various stages of depression. The film does not make it clear whether the accident is the key to his sullenness and anger; in fact, it implies that he was already a sociopath. He shows little regard for his devoted girlfriend, openly mocks people, and kicks dogs. He also speaks so few words that we never get to know him, despite his constant presence onscreen.

The movie do go on, with scene after scene of club life, bars, and wandering dark streets, punctuated with sad and explicit sex. We meet only one slightly likeable character, a doe-eyed raver who shares a moment of poetry with Nick despite having no apparent reason for being attracted to him. One sequence stands out, with Nick visiting an overheated club whose dancing patrons are doused in sweat, their hair soggy and makeup streaming. Those who speak to Nick allude to death, implying that for this moment, Nick is among his drowned classmates. This sequence ends with Nick brawling with an acquaintance, seemingly expressing his rage at being a survivor. Unfortunately, the scene has no lasting effect, and it's difficult to see whether Nick is changed by any of his experiences.

Working out of Barcelona (Catalunya), Erika Lust is typical of filmmakers interested in creating erotica while avoiding the clichés of pornography. Her pretentious project "Cabaret Desire" fails on all counts: zero for eroticism, zero for explicitness, zero for casting, zero for story and zero for conduct. Okay, I was flippant at the end there, but Jean Vigo she ain't - no visual poetry here. Even the premise of the film, a "decadent" cabaret where untalented performers sing or dance but which is built around young poets giving intimate readings to one or two customers at a time (illustrated on screen by pantomime sex vignettes) is a shuck. An informative short film on the DVD titled "The Poetry Brothel" by Patrick Catuz interviews practitioners at Barcelona and NYC "brothels" emulating Storyville or Parisian atmosphere but where folks go off into a corner or secluded nook to listen to one-on-one poetry readings and presumably have sex. Changing from brothel to cabaret is a major leap that destroys the original concept: the intimacy (beyond sex) of the inn-person poetry readings is quite the opposite of the voyeurism and ABSENCE of human contact/connection of watching pantomime vignettes on one's TV screen.​

Portraits of Andrea Palmer is an 74minute ride, passing through a life afflicted by depression, pain, and misery. The film puts another perspective upon what we all have become to know as a normal aspect of life, of which we walk past daily without ever thinking twice about. Witness what this "normal life" may entail behind the fake smiles and makeup. This movie is grime. I would dare to say some scenery and images compete with those of Saló, 120 Days of Sodom. The film holds nothing back when reaching towards its goal of ugliness.
What started as watching our protagonist's day to day life quickly fades to a much darker place as she sinks lower and lower. Early scenery captures the concept perfectly with blotchy black and white video effects, breaking only for self inflicted gore images. By the end the world has consumed what bit of individualism she had and you're left with a defeated zombie.
