Tinto Brass is still probably best known in the English speaking world for CALIGOLA, however most people don't realize that he's had quite the career up through today making soft-core erotica, the type of which hasn't been made much since about the 1970s.
What sets Tinto apart is that he has a very specific list of things that obviously turn him on such as: unshaven underarms, mirrors, infidelity, and most famously, the female rear end. All of these tend to show up in all of his films, including "Monamour". So, it can sometimes feel like if you've seen one Tinto Brass film then you have seen them all. They differ however in quality of script, actors, and scenery. "Monamour" is paint by numbers Tinto Brass. Tinto fans will find all of the usual hallmarks in this film, however little more. I am a bigger fan of his earlier films that I feel have better plots, acting, and scenery while touching upon the exact same themes as this one.

At the party Lisa is taken by the young man while the others watch. This seems to do the trick for Lisa. Her curiosity for the young man deepens and she wants to see him again. I just saw (2001) this film in Paris, mainly attracted to it by Mark Rylance and Kerry Fox, who are consistently terrific actors. Looking at the other comments issued so far, I guess that most of the attention given the film will be on the graphic sex scenes, but in general they contributed well to the overall story of lost people looking for some connection in their lives, which in a city like London (as it is filmed) seems impossible. Still, I have no idea how a sexually repressed country like Britain will pass this film without cuts. It will be intriguing to see the infantile controversy that this film will ignite in the media when it plays here.
I wouldn't recommend this film for those who are used to fast-paced stories and quick-fire dialogue. I never found the pacing too slow but you have to watch everything carefully to feel the full impact of the movie. If you have ever had a passionate but ultimately painful affair, this film will throw up all those feelings that you thought you had forgotten.

For the reason that I'm completely unsure who this film is aimed at (aside from film lovers like myself), I will not be recommending this one, but I'll also state that this is one of my favourite films in years. If that intrigues you, then maybe Poor Things is your cup of tea. Yorgos Lanthimos is a director with a clear vision that I deeply admire. I don't love all of his work, but the worst I can say about any of his films is that I appreciate them. Well, Poor Things just jumped to the top of my list of favourite Lanthimos pictures. This is a pure work of art, in the weirdest, most bizarre way possible. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the brilliance of Poor Things.

You are right when you say that there is nothing exceptional here, except nudity. But I thought it appropriate to include the film in this thread basically due to the explicit context it aims to convey. And the fact that it is Emma Stone herself who stars in it, perhaps can provide added value

This is a pretty well, if highly praised, film from the Spanish director, which is (apparently) available in three different versions. The version getting all the love and praise is the Spanish version while the French and Italian versions are re-edited with hardcore scenes and an alternate cast added to the mix. The version I watched was the Italian one, which is hard to review due to the hardcore scenes, which were added. The basic plot, I believe, is the same from each version and centers on a woman (Emma Cohen) who suffers a breakdown after the suicide of her sister (played by Lina Romay in this version). Soon after the suicide the sister begins to see her dead sister inside a mirror, which causes her to go out, bring men home and kill them. Again, it's really hard to judge this film due to the added scenes and the fact that the Spanish version is apparently totally different but there was enough here to I loved to recommend people seeing this but at the same time you should certainly try and get the original version (which I will be looking for).

I admit to being a big fan of the darker, more adult, and explicit side of Joseph W. Sarno's filmography (BUTTERFLIES, KÄRLEKSÖN, FÄBODJÄNTAN…), so I take full responsibility for how disappointing this film was for me. While the plot includes several softcore sex scenes, some quite explicit, none actually reveal any objective titillation or show the most intimate secrets of the attractive protagonists.
Eric Edwards plays an archaeology professor (I can't think of a less erotic profession for an essentially erotic plot) who spends a few days with his wife Laura (a fascinating Mary Mendum, also known as Rebecca Brooke) and his technical assistant Anna (the beautiful Cathja Graff, who could have been a sensational discovery in adult films, but who is so unremarkable that we'll never see her in any other role), collecting "stones" in a Swedish maritime environment for his "exciting" university studies. Anna not only admires the professor, but also begins a sexual and romantic affair with him behind his wife's back, while her wife sunbathes on the beach or visits friends in town. When she finally discovers everything, Anna plots a lesbian revenge that doesn't end as she expected.

The idea of a magic bauble that can grant people's sex fantasies dates at least as far back in porn as Gerard Damiano's 1971 XXXer THE MAGICAL RING, but rarely has it been as shoddily executed as Patrice Rohmm's LE BIJOU D'AMOUR ("The Love Jewel"). Given how much Rohmm impressed me with the similarly schizophrenic but infinitely more enjoyable DRAGUSE, it can't help but qualify as a disappointment.
Somehow both simultaneously threadbare and over-complicated, the plot concerns radio journalist Adrien (Jacques Manteil), forced by his boss (a young Brigitte Lahaie) into abandoning his vacation and taking up a departed colleague's report on succubi for their radio program. Venturing to a remote French village for a pre-arranged interview, the guy ends up bumping into some woman and buying a ring off her for 500 francs. When any lady touches it, Adrien finds himself transported to a cave where the two make love.

There are parts I really appreciated in the film but for all of its duration I was extremely uneasy with the fact that the film seems to completely forget it stages the sexuality of an infant. I don't think the film forgets that. The film is developing this fictional idea of a child in the body of an adult to explore what a life unaffected by societal conditioning, determined only by passion and lust would look like. If she chooses to have sex, so what? As you say, the big question is whether it happens consensually or not. At one point early in the movie, before the Lisbon sequence, the film hints at the possibility that she could be taken advantage of. But then it quite quickly makes very clear that she seeks sex on her own initiative and that she is the one who has the upper hand in all of her sexual encounters.

What makes me uneasy is how children in real life are brought up, in many cases learning that they have to submit themselves to certain social roles etc. in order to fit in in fundamentally oppressive systems. For instance Instagram and TikTok showing young girls how to perfectly fulfill the role of the sexy woman, dress and style themselves accordingly, in a hyper-sexualized way. That, to me, is a far bigger scandal than seeing a pure, liberated girl/woman/human being living the way she wants and I think this disparity is what the film wants to address.

I just don't get this conservative talking point that this film showed that "Hollywood wants to normalize pedophilia". It would be another thing if it was the story of an actual child engaging with men three times her age. But by inventing this figure of a woman with a child's mind, it so clearly points at the values lying behind the story, values of freedom and choice and liberation, and does not sexualize children (while other more mainstream Hollywood productions certainly do).

I get your point but at the same we in the real have never had to question the moral issues around this type of thing because Bella could never exist in the real world due to her creation method being impossible thus far.

Its worth noting Mark Ruffulo's character is portrayed as a sleazy creep but he's also not aware Bella has the mind of an actual child and it is shown as she grows and learns she starts to heavily reject him. By the time she's a whore she's very much an adult or a late teen, she's way more switched on and is seemingly smarter then most others and can very much make her own choices even if she's still prone to the manipulation of others. She's never sexually abused though and sex is something she heavily seeks out of her own free will, a 10 year old may start to have urges but they don't seek out sex even if their aware these urges are related to sex.
