Available on DVD from Max's, LOVE'S ISLAND is Joe Sarno's companion film to his acknowledged classic FÄBODJÄNTAN. Sarno eschews here the star system that dominates his porno films and videos, opting for people who don't resemble actors. Exception, of course, is the star-making turn by Leena, a slim, blonde beauty who is revered to this day among Swedish fans for the pair of Sarno performances. (Her discovery is analogous to a decade earlier Leena (Skoog) a buxom blonde beauty who, alas, was wasted in stupid British films and was best preserved in endless magazine layouts and short loops). Leena stars as Katrin, a literal force of nature, who seemingly lives up in the trees on this remote little island. Though the film is not a fantasy, not even as much as FÄBODJÄNTAN and its magical horn, she seems to be a wood sprite or other legendary creature.

Its subject matter being the making of an "experimental movie", The Debauchers is an experiment itself: taking the tried-and-true (and cheap) Warhol/Morrissey invention of confrontational improvised dialog (SEE: any Ondine performance) and making it work in a nasty, hardcore domination opus. The film was difficult to watch, and frankly distasteful, but a la the in-your-face Italian movies of Alberto Cavallone, worth the effort. Terry Levene distributed the film back in the day, and it is one of his most unusual titles.
Plot hook is very cornball -the porno staple of a girl answering an ad for participation in an "experimental movie", and later ruing her own naiveté. This sort of ploy dates back to the exploitation films of the 1930s, with the girl from a small town answering a "no experience necessary" ad, coming to the big town and falling prey to white slavery/bondage, as in Elmer Clifton's still watchable "Slaves in Bondage".

Sounds like a natural -- a 70s female vampire opus from 60s erotica master Joseph Sarno. His best suburban exposés of the Eisenhower/Kennedy era featured smatterings of the occult, and one would think that the loosening of standards would set his art free. Don't get your hopes up too high, though. First of all, Sarno's favoured technique is to build up tension between characters using short dialogue scenes -- but here, the thick German accents and stiff acting render the script unfathomable. And Sarno doesn't really have the intense visual style (at least not with this cinematographer) requisite of the genre, despite the authentic Bavarian castle background. Nonetheless, Sarno fans will be amused by the recycling of his favourite tropes (candles, bongo drums, ceremonial chants and dances, carnal compulsion and betrayal), and vampiric completists may be amused by his idiosyncratic and more realistic take on bloodlust conventions. Just don't expect a lost masterpiece, and be prepared to put some effort into the viewing.

Jess Franco and Lina Romay both directed this hardcore flick, a remake of CONFESIONES ÍNTIMAS DE UNA EXHIBICIONISTA (1983), although it seems all Franco with his slow moving camera and constant zoom shots. A woman (Romay) notices a man spying on her from a hotel room across from hers so she gives him something to look at. This is basically three short films, ala three sex acts, put together with a short running time of 54-minutes. You can tell this is one of Franco's quickies that he filmed in a day or two but it features a nice score from Pablo Villa as well as being somewhat erotic. Making this erotic might be Franco's greatest directing work considering Romay certainly wasn't in top form here. She's packing quite a bit a weight, which is rather strange because I've seen other flicks from Franco in 1986 and her look is quite different. Oh well, the crazy world of Franco.

Delightful short film, maybe heavy on the love-making lessons, but I would categorise this film as sweet. Very enjoyable way to spend an hour, and might make you think out of the box. Never underestimate a Japanese film. The cast are perfect, the storyline is (in the same way as 'It's a Wonderful Life' ) unbelievable, but uplifting. As with many (all?) films different reviewers denigrate/praise movies as they seem fit, but we can have our own opinions - so don't just listen to others - this film is FUN - and as far as I am concerned is well worth a watch. If you want a film that will leave a smile on your face this is is for you.

A young woman (Lina Romay) is sent to prison after accidentally killing her father (Franco himself) who was trying to rape her. Inside the prison she must deal with an evil warden (Monica Swinn), a mixed up doctor (Paul Muller) and all sorts of sexually hungry lesbians. As far as WIP (Women in Prison) films go then this is without question the best one I've seen as it has no limits to the amount of trash it will go to whether it be violence, torture, nudity or sexual abuse. The film never takes itself overly serious and instead is just a good time if you can stand this type of thing. Romay has the perfect look for the good girl and really delivers on that level. Her sexuality certainly shine through as does the rest of the girls. I've said quite often that no one knows how to film women better than Franco and his camera is constantly looking over all the beautiful women and picking up everything he can.

In São Paulo, the gang of the former pimp Marcus abducts another virgin woman late night. They trade the virgin girls with three wealthy sick old men that pay a little fortune to deflower the girls. Then the gang of sex maniacs kills the women and dumps their bodies in the backwoods. The police know that the gang has abducted sixteen women and they have already found ten bodies, but they do not have any lead to find the criminals. Meanwhile, the dry cleaners Pedro and Baixinho have a button of the jacket of a kidnapper that had abduct his neighbor. Pedro and Sueli, who is the sister of Baixinho, learn that she is pregnant.
"Os Violentadores de Meninas Virgens" is a trashy and cheesy Brazilian crime movie from Boca do Lixo. There are many scenes of explicit sex where the penetration are visibly edited and with woman that are probably prostitutes from the Boca do Lixo, but the most hilarious is that they are described as "virgins" in the plot.

I was surprised watching PRETTY WET LIPS on a new Alpha Blue Archives DVD to discover it was strictly soft-core in the sex department, given its casting and age (1974). But it fits the pattern of Chris Warfield's Lima Productions, which continued making soft porn well into the hardcore era. Film unfolds with plenty of pseudo-documentary structure, as a shrink interviews three young ladies whose lives intertwined due to crime. Flashbacks tell the tale, which is not all that interesting but plays okay by '70s drive-in movie standards.
Eve Orlon is interesting to observe as always, playing a criminal named Chickie whose teammate Buster is into raping women, and Chickie likes to egg him on. The other two women are their victims, and the events are dredged up here in a manner as corny as the numerous TV series later in the '70s.

Brazilian 70's-to-80's sexploitation comedy subgenre called Pornochanchada used to have films with titles that were even more exploiting than the movies themselves. However, the so direct, explicit and unimaginative title of this one was not an exaggeration, at least for the first segment. The feature film is divided in three independent segments, and the first and worst of them has a script that seriously is identical to the plots of generic pornographic productions. The second segment is not good either, but is at least more sophisticated (and weird): until the (not that innovative) intentions be unveiled, there is kind of a suspense interwined with naked bodies. Things become much more interesting, innovative, artistic, and bizarre in the last segment, "The cricket", directed by John Doo. Pace is not always the best, but that home situation is near surreal, the supernatural element is quite nice, and the horror end is the best of all in the whole movie.

Ursula finds her husband Charles, busy with his secretary at his office. She immediately leaves him and takes her little daughter Delphine with her. As they travel in her car, it goes off the road. The girl is killed and Ursula becomes amnesiac. She can’t stand Charles anymore as he has now become unknown to her. She prefers her nurse Josette’s lovemaking. Charles tries to bring her memory back by showing films about their daughter at winter sports. To no avail. He then tries to make her jealous by making love to Josette but she joins them unaware of the real situation. Charles seeks help from Anne-Marie, a psychologist who suggests group therapy, which ends up in an orgy. Later on, Charles and Ursula get drunk in a night club and end up making love together. Yet, on the morning, Charles finds himself alone in bed. He goes to Anne-Marie’s and finds comfort in her arms. In the meantime, Ursula has seen the doctor who had taken care of her after her accident, and he tells her that she’s been pregnant for two months. She asks him for an abortion and to make love to her. He agrees on the last suggestion! A few months later, Charles who is about to put an end to his life gets a phone call telling him that Ursula is about to give birth to her child. The couple ends up together ready to start anew.

Given the title and outlandish box art, I was ready for just about anything. Perhaps my expectation were forced just a bit to high, because I was left a little dry. A film crew working on a soft-core sex movie end up at a strange house when they get lost in the fog and decide the best way to spend the evening is to have sex. Where hasn't this set up been used before? The difference here is the uber-perverse nature of the sex. Not allowed to show all the goods (groin shots were illegal in Japan for a long time, what is shown is fogged out) the movie tries as hard as it can to show the viewer just how unnatural sex can be. Amidst all the kinky goings on, a mud monster (whose origin I can't fathom) shows up and begins murdering the men and raping the women...then murdering them too. Some of the sights are a bit much, most notably a woman having her intestines pulled out through her vagina or another woman spitting out a mouthful of...stuff, but otherwise the gore is pretty standard fare.
