From the watershed Swedish film, I am Curious (Yellow), 1967, the "scandalous" scene (for the 1960s) of Lena Nyman kissing a flaccid penis. The film was seized by U.S. Customs when it was imported into the US in 1967 on the grounds that it was "obscene" due to its graphic nudity and sex. The film’s distributor, Grove Press, argued in court that it was "art". The U.S. Court of Appeals overturned that decision in 1968 paving the way for more graphic sex in mainstream movies. The film was a huge hit, eventually grossing more than $20 million in the U.S, even though as a film it was a boring rant on political and social issues of the time.
