Explicit Caligula

I didn't know there was a new version. Send me the IMDb link and I'll know which one you mean.
I believe kalu means "Caligula - The Ultimate Cut". This is a non-explicit cut, as I mentioned earlier. The "Ultimate" is from a cinematography perspective, not from a nudity perspective.

Oh, I understand now. Thanks.

If this were really Helen Mirren, it is clear that she did know the sexual nature of the film and that, therefore, her subsequent anger and disassociation would make little sense.
I'm pretty sure the "original" explicit version made it quite clear that this is no PG-13 film. She had nude lesbian scenes in the temple, sex scenes with Malcolm McDowell and with Teresa Ann Savoy, etc. There were also plenty of scenes with the main cast that had graphic nudity and violence done either by them or by extras in the background of their scenes (Peter O'Toole's grotto scene with the naked "freaks" and the killing of a naked drunken soldier by tying off his penis, force-feeding him wine so he can't pee it, and then gutting him to release said wine). I mean, they took money from Guccione and used his Penthouse models for the main cast shoots!

However, explicit as it may be, the original footage showed no unsimulated sex - only graphic nudity. Or so we're told. The cast riled against crossing the line into hardcore territory. For them (allegedly) it's like the difference between Game of Thrones and Game of Bones: Winter Is Cumming.

Fun fact: I didn't know Game of Bones existed until writing this post. I just assumed that if there's a porn version of Game of Thrones (Rule 34 of the Internet), that's how it would be called. I googled it and was proven right - porn producers really don't try too hard, do they?

I subscribe to what concerns Caligula.
And regarding parodies, it is a curious fact that during the golden age of adult cinema, called 'Chic', scripts were also parodied (for example by Truman Capote), but the public never understood that wink. So starting in the 90s they decided that what had to be parodied were the titles. Like, for example, Edward Penishands :p

but there is a big difference b/t sexual and pornographic, there were very graphic scenes in the 70s films like "The Man Who Fell to Earth" and "1900", it also seems like a trend at the time, probably it started from "The Last Picture Show", the sexual scenes were no longer a taboo for actors and actress to explore, the audience the critics had no issues either. Actors like Rip Torn, Robert De Niro... all participated in the extremely graphic and sexual scenes, but I doubt they would be ok if the director or the producer edited the porn to the films without telling them first, the porn changed the narrative, their scenes became a prelude to the on screen climax later, of course they would be pissed off.

I think a lot of people do not understand the real story here.
The cast absolutely knew about the graphic nudity and explicit but not hardcore nature of the film.
What they didn't know about was Bob Guccione, who was financing Caligula, flying in around a dozen Penthouse Pets for a couple of days that had no shooting scheduled in order to film a massive full hardcore orgy scene. One Pet, despite having done some hardcore earlier in her career, left when she found out what Bob wanted from them. Rumour was that any of the Pets that balked at the idea were basically told that either they shoot the hardcore scenes or find their own way home. Knowing Bob, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if true.
Head screenwriter Gore Vidal and director Tinto Brass had no idea this was happening and Brass was in fact dismissed by Guccione prior to editing, bringing in Giancarlo Lui to edit the final film which was to include hardcore footage filmed by Bob.
Brass, Vidal and pretty much the entire main cast disavowed the film on release with most of them not even knowing they were basically in a porn movie until they showed up to watch it during the premier party lol.

Now as far as the hardcore footage, only about 12 minutes or so made it into the film but according to Penthouse, they have hours of Bob's raw unedited hardcore footage that they hope to edit into a 60-90 minute special release sometime after the Ultimate Cut.
Now since the Ultimate Cut has been out for a little while now, we can only cross our fingers that we hopefully see this in the near future.
