There have been some pretty strange sub-genres to come out of Japan including some of the most brutal films out there like The Guinea Pig films and MEN BEHIND THE SUN. The latest craze appears to be the "Pinku Eiga" genre and this title was my first exposure to it. Whether I visit again soon is certainly going to depend on me reading some more reviews before actually watching one of the films. The story is pretty simple as a newly married woman begins to feel that her husband is possessed by a demon because he likes sex. The woman goes to see another woman who might be able to perform an exorcism and the two discuss what has been happening to the wife. The title makes this appear to be a porno but I assure you that it isn't. What exactly it is I'm not sure but if you enjoy watching really strange and bizarre films then you'll probably want to check this out.

Unhappily married rich lady Emanuelle (luscious brunette knockout Malu) is fed up with both her brutish, overbearing and disgusting lout husband Michael (slimy Gianni Macchia) and other men insensitively treating her like a piece of meat. While the female leads are certainly attractive (and look quite delicious sans clothes), the soft-core sex scenes fail to generate any true heat because of Fanetti's bland presentation. You know a soft-core film isn't working when such seemingly can't miss ingredients as amply tasty distaff nudity, lesbianism, finger sucking, forced rough sex, erotic chopstick action, and voyeurism come across as boring and uninteresting.

I blow hot & cold regarding the spate of silent porn films released 40 years back, when shooting MOS and adding narration was a common practice. RAQUEL'S MOTEL is a good example of the format. I found it far superior to the many MOS movies of pornographer Nick Millard, who made the mistake of adding pretentious, flowery purple-prose voice-overs to his work. The anonymous director of RAQUEL'S MOTEL opted for a more interesting and effective strategy. Each cast member, instead of doing a dumb play-by-play, accompanies the sex scene with anecdotes recalling earlier sexual experiences. The writing approximates that of an old "stroke book" or men's magazine porn fiction, designed to arouse the viewer imaginatively by telling a suggestive story. The visuals provide the soft porn optical stimulation.

“Giallo a Venezia” has a reputation for being one of the sleaziest films produced in an already sleazy sub genre. “Giallos”, for the uninitiated, are Italian horror films known for their extreme violence punctuated by scenes of explicit sex. They heavily influenced the American slasher films of the late 70s and early 80s, but for the most part these American films were not as extreme as their Italian counterparts. There are few death scenes in “Giallo a Venezia” but they are quite gory. There's an immolation, a graphic dismemberment, and the usual requisite stabbings. “Giallo a Venezia” does feature plenty of sex and nudity, but the bare bodies on display do further the plot: after finding a married couple's dead bodies on the Venice beach our main character, a detective, is baffled by the crime's seemingly lack of motive.

She confesses to Roman his constant betrayals justifying them with the attempt to overcome his childhood trauma, but he reacts abruptly. The main difference between this explicit version and the more commercial erotic version lies, basically, in the incorporation of almost identical genital close-ups and redundant and uncreative sequences.
