From a comment made on their facebook page under a post, it will probably go on VOD next spring or something.

The good thing, Mr. Skin lists the actress with the tag "real sex" for the movie, so I guess we will have to wait and see; I cannot find any solid information on the web...

It has been shown at Chicago International Film Festival in October and this week at Denver International Film Festival. Maybe someone from Mr. Skin has seen it, but it's probably just speculation.
It's been out in Germany for a couple of months already. Strange that there's nothing more concrete about the sex scenes. Sometimes there are some rumours even before the release.
I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. Too many times "explicit" has meant just a little bit longer or more realistic sex scenes than is the norm.

So the above mentioned "explicit sex scenes" were just your normal, run of the mill sex scenes? Not even full frontal nudity?

I think those newspaper art & culture reporters/critics should try to expand their vocabulary and start calling things by their accurate names. If there are no actual ("real") sexual acts performed or graphic nudity (meaning: much more than what is the current norm in movies) displayed, the scenes are not "explicit". In fact you could say they are the opposite: implicit or implied, i.e. not shown explicitly on the screen. It's not that hard. Those people are college educated.

    OK, end of the rant.

Sometimes I cannot but think some reviewers are stupid puritans who consider all sexual movie scenes that show more than a glimpse of a femine breast to be "explicit" ...

There are at least four sex scenes in this film, but no explicit,
full frontal nudity - female & Male

I think perhaps they mean that the sex scenes are more graphic by way of movement or positions or something akin more to softcore than what would usually be seen in a mainstream production.
Like in a movie if you see a girl on top there's not a lot of movement or if there is, it's slow and romantic, but in a movie like this perhaps (I have not seen it) if the girl is on top, she's thrusting away rather "explicitly" like real people do when they have sex.
I'm just guessing but that may be what they mean with their use of the word in this context.
Like they use it as a verb, where we tend to use it as a noun around here.
"The sex scenes are explicit in their movement" vs. "The sex scenes show explicit penetration."

You're probably right, but that would mean there are a lots and lots of "explicit" European movies since so many of them have that kind of more realistic sex scenes with softcore-like movement. Even some continental mainstream tv-shows have rather vigorous sex scenes, but I haven't seen them described as explicit since they obviously don't really show anything more than is the norm and they are also much shorter than scenes in softcore. I guess the the duration of the scenes is also one of the factors when some people call them "explicit". Don't know if that is true in this instance though.

Well, I appreciate a vigorous sex scene, even if it's not explicit :) Like the sex scene in Las Oscuras Primaveras from Mexico. Came out in 2014 but I only saw it recently and it's the best scene of the year for me.
It has no apparent physical explicitness, but it sure seems real.
But this isn't about that movie so back on topic.

Well from now on, unless we read a review that specifically describes what is going on in the scenes of a movie, then, whenever "explicit" is mentioned by some reviewer, we have to assume that he is talking about softcore material!

Joining late to the discussion, IMHO some (usually prudish or "mainstream only") reviewers use the term "explicit sex" as the opposite of "implicit sex" or "implied sex". If you get to see the lower half of the actors during the act, even without seeing penetration or genitals they would classify it as "explicit". Unfortunately this covers almost anything other that the "lie on each other kissing and fade to black" tv-class sex scenes. Think R-rated or higher.
On the other hand there is the "simulated"/"unsimulated" distinction: just because the actors are actually "doing it" it does not mean you get to see anything. Remember "Monster's Ball" or "Don't Look Now"? There are many Hollywood movies rumored to to have excessive chemistry between the actors but show nothing. I don't even count the movies in which some reviewer's overactive imagination (or malicious intent) un-simulated a completely PG-13 scene. A recent (?) example for this would be "Les Manèges Humains (2012)" - although listed in IMDB with the keyword "unsimulated sex", the sole sex scene barely showed genitals.
We really need some better indication for sex scene contents... Maybe we could open a "how to find explicit scenes" brainstorming discussion thread? [/rant]

Can you give some description of the scenes you remember?

I guess I would categorize the Las Oscuras Primaveras scene as semi-explicit, realistic or something like that, since they actually showed the actor's hard on which is not the norm. I agree it's a great scene. Somewhat like the recent Boi Neon. The guy has an erection, it's filmed in one continuous shot and I'm fairly convinced they really had sex even though there's no actual direct evidence of that.
I think actual explicit sex scenes in mainstream(ish) movies are usually easier to hear about and find (at least when the movie actually has a general release) since they are so rare that the word gets around and usually we eventually get to see them. But these semi-explicit scenes can remain in obscurity much longer. Especially older scenes from movies outside the Western countries. I'm sure there are lots of great scenes (at least semi-explicit) from Asian and South-American movies from the time before the rise of the Internet that we haven't even heard of.
